Cooking Together at Moore Place: Kofta Sandwiches and Shared Moments

Mosaic of Charlotte recently returned to Moore Place for another joyful cooking class, continuing our mission to bring people together through the universal language of food and conversation. This month’s featured dish was the Kofta Sandwich—a classic Turkish-style meatball sandwich that is both hearty and full of tradition.

By using high-quality ground beef from our Qurbani donations, we were able to turn a sacred act of giving into a nourishing meal for our neighbors in Uptown Charlotte.

👩‍🍳 A Turkish Classic: The Kofta Sandwich

The kitchen was a hub of activity as our team prepared the meal with care. The residents enjoyed a full sensory experience, watching the ingredients come together to create a familiar yet culturally unique comfort food.

  • The Main Event: Flavorful, hand-shaped meatballs (Kofta) seasoned with traditional herbs and spices.

  • The Assembly: Served in fresh, crusty bread and topped with crisp greens.

  • The Perfect Sides: Accompanied by crispy fries and followed by sweet treats to round out the meal.

The simplicity of the sandwich made it easy to serve and enjoy, leaving plenty of room for what matters most: connection.

✨ Building Belonging, One Meal at a Time

Moments like these remind us that food has a unique power to bring hearts together. Each session at Moore Place is more than just a “service”—it’s a chance to build familiarity and trust.

  • Shared Dignity: Eating together as equals fosters a sense of belonging for residents.

  • Trust Through Consistency: Our regular presence at Moore Place allows us to grow deeper relationships with the community.

  • Meaningful Connection: Turning simple ingredients into a shared experience helps remind our neighbors that they are seen and valued.

“A shared meal is the shortest distance between two people.”
